Meet Gesa Weyhenmeyer Professor in Aquatic Biogeochemistry and member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Weyhenmeyer's research is on understanding how lake ecosystems around the world respond to a rapidly changing global environment. Much of her research is carried out within the Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network (GLEON). By bridging together biology with geosciences, physics, chemistry, sensor technology and data science her research provides novel insights into climate responses and feedbacks of Earth’s ecosystems.
The basis for the research are global, regional and local databases, including Sweden's unique physical, chemical and biological freshwater long-term data series as well as field and laboratory experiments. The research is mainly funded by the European Union, NordForsk, the Swedish Research Council, the Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning (FORMAS), the Royal Academy of Sciences and the Wallenberg foundation.
In addition to research, Weyhenmeyer is actively engaged in the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), both as official reviewer and contributing author. Weyhenmeyer is also an Excellent Teacher, and she has a passion to pass on our common responsibility to sustain lakes on Earth and frequently communicates this responsibility and newest research results to students, policy-makers, stakeholders and society in general. In 2024, she led, for example, an international study on Global Lake Health in the Anthropocene: societal implications and treatment strategies, which was published in Earth's Future and communicated to a very broad audience.
Please check out and follow Gesa Weyenmeyer's amazing bio, background, work, and publications.

Agnes Hellström is a recognized Swedish journalist, author, and peace activist. She served between 2016-2022 as the Chair of the Swedish Peace and Arbitration Society, (SPAS) the world’s oldest Peace Organisation, founded in 1883.
SPAS (or Svenska Freds) is part of the  International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, ICAN, whose persistent work led to 122 countries in the UN voting yes to a convention to ban nuclear weapons on July 7, 2017. Their work include to stop arms exports to dictatorships and for many years campaigned for a democracy criterion. On April 15, 2018, a new law came into force where a democracy criterion is included in the regulations for arms exports.
During her time as the chair for SPAS, and lifelong pacifist Agnes was a strong and outspoken spokesperson against Sweden’s NATO membership.
After leaving her position at SPAS, and with her publishers urgings to write about her experiences at SPAS resulted in her book with a provocative title, Fredsfittan or in English the PeacePussy. (Unfortunately, only available in Swedish)

Dr Birgit Schreiber is a winner of the Noam Chomsky research achievement award 2022, an author of several fascinating books such as Professionalisation of Student Affairs in Higher Education across the Globe she co-authored with a colleague.  And she finished (and is about to start again) 4 years of Women in Leadership in Higher Ed training programme, as well as the Student Affairs Development program (https://helm.ac.za/about/team/  relating to Student Affairs. Her books and training programs are most definitely of interest to Higher Ed educators, administrators, and staff.
All the above-mentioned books include a section on coaching, which is the topic of today’s podcast. This is an interesting conversation since coaching good coaching is a powerful and an impactful tool to help and support colleagues in higher ed. Coaching that specifically focuses on the educator, their work, and their careers are covered but also individual coaching that has a more tailored focus.
